Why did Jane Horan, EdD leave her dream job at The Walt Disney Company to start her own company?

πŸŽ™οΈπŸ’ͺ In ep 41 of #ctrlaltcareer podcast, founder and CEO of The Horan Group, Jane Horan, shares her incredible journey of moving from the US to China at 17 y/o, landing her dream job at Disney and ultimately giving it all up to build her own business helping corporates be more inclusive

πŸ”₯ Here's a snippet of some lessons I took away -

1️⃣ Opportunities can happen unexpectedly or planned. Sometimes it’s ok to throw away the business plan and just trust your instincts.

2️⃣ Feeling like an impostor can be good! It keeps you humble and helps you do well in your job.

3️⃣ When figuring out what your dream career looks like, think about your top three values. And it can often help to think back to when you were a kid. When Jane was 5, she wanted to be a bird - which echoes her values of freedom, authenticity, and helping others.

4️⃣ From Jane's PhD research on Asian female leaders:
- Purpose is critical to a fulfilling career. When they can't make a difference, they move on.
- They all have strong networks. Without their connections, they wouldn't be where they are.

5️⃣ To be politically savvy, understand how your organization works. Be empathetic. Learn how decisions are made and who has informal influence.

And so much more!
