Confession: I have a love/hate relationship with Singapore.
❤️:
1️⃣ It’s a small and walkable city –
Meeting my clients is a breeze because it’s so easy to get from one end to another.
Physical meetings take less than an hour, tops!
2️⃣ It’s a melting pot.
I love the diversity in career paths.
In Hong Kong, most of the people I met were either from finance, law, or accounting.
Here, I’ve had the chance to meet people who work in tech, startups, retail, oil & gas, etc.
It’s helped me open my eyes to different perspectives and possibilities.
3️⃣ Independence
I will always love Singapore for being the place I was able to reinvent myself
Stepping out of HK, I was able to distance myself from what people expect of me, and the person they associate me with.
It gave me the ability to start with a blank sheet of paper
The freedom to really dictate and define who I want to be.
As for the HATE:
1️⃣ The weather
Endless humidity and heat.
I melt and sweat within three seconds of leaving the house.
Global warming is real.
(Props to those of you who have to work outdoors!!!)
2️⃣ The fashion
Somehow, Singapore is just not a fashion capital.
Everyone often dresses in corporate colours - plain and dark colours, while I’m a big fan of colours, textures and patterns!
No matter, wherever I go, the fashionista in me won’t be tamed
3️⃣ Staying away from my family
I know, I know what I just said mere lines ago
BUT HEAR ME OUT!
Independence is nice and all until you start missing all your family back home.
If only Hong Kong wasn’t so far away!
What do you like about where you stay, and how does it feel like home?
