Time flies - when you have a child.

I remember back when I was a kid, how I’d proudly correct people that “I’m 6.5 years old!” (not just 6 y/o) and how I longed for when I would finally ‘grow up’.

Time accelerated after graduation when there were no longer any real markers in life.

👀 Blink - I had been at BlackRock for 7 years

👀 Blink - I spent 3 years at a fashion startup

👀 Blink - I was building my career coaching business

The past decade I’ve spent working on my career has flown by, but the past few months caring for my baby have been on a whole other level.

Because every day, my daughter is growing.

Changing.

There is an underlying sense of urgency to time (or lack of it!) because my daughter is:

✅ Outgrowing her clothes (again!)
✅ Able to lift her head confidently
✅ Learning to roll over
✅ Sleeping through the night?! (I hope I didn’t just jinx this!)

In the moments where I have a chance to rest, I think about how time felt so different when I only had my career to worry about.

The sense of desperate ‘urgency’ just isn’t there.

Because our career isn’t littered with physical markers (unless you count moving from the bullpen to a fancier office after a promotion?!).

It’s too easy to let time pass by before you realise that you’ve spent a decade working in a job that you hate.

I know this because that’s what happened to me.

I was miserable, unsatisfied but maintained my status quo for nearly a decade before I took the plunge.

But it doesn’t have to be that way for you.

You don’t have to let time pass you by.

You can be more proactive with your career and ensure that you’re always on the right track.

But it has to start today.

You have to make a decision NOW - or it’ll never happen.

So if you feel that sense of anxiety, the nagging feeling of discontent with where your career is right now…

Don’t settle.

Let today be the start of the next season in your career.
