The biggest mistake I made as a first-time mum?
Believing the maternal instinct exists.
The reality is… Maternal instinct is a lie. It’s a myth.
Especially when it comes to breastfeeding.
Yes, you read that right.
4 months into motherhood, I’ve to say that all those things people have told me about maternal instinct are NOT true.
I did not:
❌ Magically figure out how to breastfeed my baby
❌ Know how to get the baby to latch
❌ Do things that would magically make the baby calm down during feeds
It wasn’t the beautiful bonding experience I wanted it to be.
In reality, it was a battle every single time.
Both for the baby and for me.
And honestly, I would have given up on breastfeeding within a few weeks and think this just isn’t for me had it not been for the superheroes of parenthood:
Confinement nannies and lactation consultants.
They patiently reminded me that it takes time for your milk to come in
They came up with alternatives to help the baby latch better
They helped me come up with a schedule for the feeds
They suggested methods to help increase my milk supply
You name it, they've been my lifeline.
And you know what all this reminds me of?
Our career journeys.
Let’s face it – the reality is that most of us have no idea how to navigate our careers.
We don’t know how to build careers that actually make us not have the Monday Blues and Sunday Scaries.
And it’s so easy to give up along the way and think “Oh this alternative career path just isn’t for me”
In the same way that I would have given up on breastfeeding had it not been for the confinement nanny and lactation consultant’s help!
So if you’re looking for a meaningful career, you don’t have to go through it alone.
Just like how I wouldn’t want to fumble through the dark and figure out motherhood alone…
I wouldn’t want you to stumble through your career.
So contact me “STUMBLE” and we can get started.
I’ve helped countless individuals navigate their career pivots, moving from healthcare to media, tech to learning and development, and even banking to fashion!
