My client just created her own job at a global investment bank! š¤Æ
Hereās what happened:
My client was looking to make a pivot in her new career.
She had a warm contact at the bank and reached out, despite being told that the company had no job openings then.
The person ended up loving her.
In fact, she loved her so much that she told her that they would create a job just for her, based on her experience!
When the job posting went out on the official job portal, the company received a ton of applications.
But my client was the top candidate.
Because that job had been created just for her. š
Later, she told me she was ready to give up because HR had initially told her they were on a hiring freeze
And sheās so thankful I forced her not to give up at the first ānoā and coached her to build a portfolio of work to win them over.
She told me this experience broke all her limiting beliefs:
Before, she had thought that a massive company like the bank would never even consider an applicant who didnāt fulfil their immediate needs
Let alone create a job just for her.
Here are my thoughts:
1ļøā£ Employers are always looking to hire massive talents
If you had the opportunity to hire Elon Musk, would a hiring freeze stop you?
Probably not!
Youād go above and beyond to hire him because you can see the true value that he will bring.
And even if you arenāt Elon Musk - letās face it, we all arenāt - that doesnāt mean big institutions wonāt create jobs just for us.
Donāt ever let a so-called āhiring freezeā deter you from reaching out and giving your best (just make sure you know exactly what you want and what you can bring to the table).
2ļøā£ Contact the right people
If youāre looking for a job, donāt go through HR - theyāre the messengers whoāll most likely issue the standard āweāre on a hiring freezeā response.
Reach out directly to the hiring manager instead.
Those are the ones who are always on the hunt for talent and have the decision-making power.
3ļøā£ Prove your worth
To get a job tailored for you, you must first prove that you are worth it.
Be articulate. Succinct.
Speak the language of the hiring manager and make sure that you know the answer to the following:
ā How do you stand out?
ā How are your existing skills and experiences relevant (in different industries/roles)
Show that you are a high-quality candidate; someone that your desired company canāt afford to miss out on (despite a hiring freeze).
And watch as those opportunities start dropping on your lap. š
