Let’s throwback to everyone’s least favourite year: 2020

Lockdown – or circuit breaker as Singapore calls it – was everywhere.

We couldn’t go out or meet our friends.

Unless we were frontliners, we had to stay indoors and wait for the waves of uncertainty to pass.

As an extrovert, this was hell.

My mental health suffered.

I couldn’t stand talking to my bathroom mirror!

Which is why I started the Ctrl Alt Career podcast.

There, I interview guests in Asia who have left behind a traditional corporate path to pursue an alternative career

In my first episode, I spoke to Chris Cheung, who left Unilever to co-start his own F&B concept Bread & Beast (and is now the director of Good Food Movement!)

I learned so much in the process and it was a ton of fun, despite the rudimentary setup, the mediocre sound, and the lack of video.

For me, it was the perfect excuse to talk to people

And honestly, I didn’t even think the podcast would go anywhere

But before long… strangers were writing to me, thanking me for creating the podcast and bringing an Asian perspective to career journeys

And they started asking me for advice and help with their own careers

I was taken aback by the reception, but I realised it was a topic that resonated with a lot of people

And that’s when I realised another thing I loved to do –  guiding people with their careers

I never thought to be a career coach

Never in a million years could have planned this for myself

But it truly is the perfect career for me right now

And now I tell my clients that there’s something they’re interested in trying, stop overthinking.

Just do it.

Landing in your dream career requires testing, iterating, and taking action.

It may turn out to be a business opportunity, or it may not.

But it’s always important to do something for yourself.

Need help figuring out what this is for you?

I guide people by figuring out their core career values and have done so for folks from Citibank, Nestle, Micron, ByteDance, and more.

I’d love to see how I can help you.
