“I’ve applied for hundreds of jobs but got nothing.”

This was something my client had been grieving about for a year.

She knew that her first job out of uni in the public service wasn’t for her, but she had to take it during the pandemic.

Two years on, she was still miserable.

So she spent one whole year doing “everything”, which included:
➡️ Applying to multiple industries – tech, healthcare, banking
➡️ Looking at all kinds of jobs – media monitoring, data analytics, marketing
➡️ Speaking to different professionals to get advice and referrals
➡️ Scoring a few interviews and replies from companies

Still nothing.

The moment we started working together, I told her that firstly, she is hardworking.

Secondly, the way she’s approaching her job search is wrong.

Rather than casting a wide net, she should become laser-focused.

There’s a reason why people can succeed after applying for only 5 or ONE job - they know exactly what they want.

My client?

Not so much.

So here’s how you do it:

Rather than fitting your experiences to all the JDs you find, design a JD that fits your ideal job.

Instead of asking the big questions that you have no answer to, e.g.:

❌ What kind of industry do you want to work in?
❌ What job do you want?

Start small and ask yourself these questions:

💬 What sort of culture are you fond of?
💬 Fully in-office or remote jobs?
💬 What type of projects do you want to work on?
💬 What’s your ideal supervisor?

When we worked on these questions, her goals became A LOT clearer.

She found out she didn’t want ANY of the 100+ jobs she applied for.

She then applied for two other roles in media – and secured both.

It energises me so much when I get to work with hardworking high achievers like her.

If you’re looking for clarity in your career search too, look no further.

Send me a DM “CLARITY” and we can get started.
