I bombed my first job
And it was humiliating because I was supposed to be the Asian dream kid.
The straight A, Columbia graduate with a shiny 6-figure job at BlackRock.
My parents were so, so proud.
They never knew my dark secret, i.e. that I was a complete failure at work.
Because you see, I’m an extrovert by nature.
I love meeting people and sharing what I’m excited about.
Whereas my first role at BlackRock was data and coding intensive.
Everything that I was terrible at.
But hey, I’m a capable young professional.
I can get myself out of here! (or so I thought).
So I started to apply to other shiny roles at big tech companies (👋🏻Hi, Google!)
But. It. Did. Not. Work. 😞
I was drained and felt like I was at a dead end until I hired my first career coach.
She helped me identify exactly why I was dead inside.
Because I didn’t know what my values and strengths were.
I was prioritising prestige, pay and shiny titles over what I truly loved and was good at.
And I was settling for career dissatisfaction because I thought I had to “pay my dues”.
✨Spoiler alert: You DO NOT have to settle.
The coaching was so transformative, that I ended up quitting my fancy BlackRock job as VP to enter the startup world.
➡️Now, I run my own business teaching other highflyers how they too can build a hashtag#dreamcareer for themselves.

I promise I won't bite.
