It’s not normal to bitch about work.
Not that I haven’t done it (many times) myself!
It was almost cathartic to do it back then. To grab a drink with some colleagues after work and bitch about the terrible work, salary and lack of social life that we all had.
And because everyone was doing it, it felt normal.
And a vicious cycle that I just couldn’t break.
Until I did.
So how did it all change for me?
Well, I’ll be honest: The process was gradual, long and painful.
And it all began with awareness. An awareness within me that:
❌ These constant after-work “bitching” sessions weren’t normal
❌ I didn’t want this to be my norm
❌ And most importantly, that it was up to me to make a change
One vital step that I took to bring about change was to meet more people. Specifically, people who:
✅ Weren’t afraid to take risks
✅ Loved what they did
✅ Never felt like they had to work a day in their lives
And yes, those people do exist.
It is not a myth when people say that doing what you love means you’ll never have to work a day in your life, but know that getting to this destination takes time.
Effort.
Dedication.
And a lot of failures along the way.
So if you’re unhappy about your work, stop bitching.
Start reflecting. Meeting new people. And taking deliberate steps to bring about change to your career trajectory.
The power is all in your hands.
You just have to take that step.
