Is 2024 an employees’ or employers’ market?

If you ask me, it doesn’t matter.

What matters the most instead is the ACTION you take to take control of your career.

Here are 3 tips to get the career you deserve.

1. Stop telling yourself there are no jobs out there

Silence your limiting beliefs and fall into a vicious cycle of thinking that:

“The job market is doing bad right now”
“There are hiring freezes everywhere”

You’re rejecting yourself before without even trying!

If you had the opportunity to hire Mark Zuckerberg, would a hiring freeze stop you?

Probably not!

You’d figure out how to break the hiring freeze and bring him on board.

The key here is to figure out what you bring to the table and make them see you as the gem that you are.

2. Side step your lack of prior experience by showcasing your skills via your side hustles

One of my clients spent years in healthcare.

But she had strength in writing and content creation – something she never highlighted in her resume

Even though she had a blog and worked on multiple projects’ social media platforms!

When she started playing this strength up in her resume and cover letter, her hiring managers didn’t ask for the official professional experience – they were already so impressed by her blog posts and Instagram reels.

When you know your strengths and play it up, hiring managers will want you.

They won’t be deterred by the state of the economy or whatever, they’ll find ways to accommodate your needs to get you in the team.

3. Start reaching out and making new connections

I say this all the time and I’ll say it again: People hire people.

Even in the bleakest economies, people will prefer to work with people they know rather than any random stranger.

So as much as you can, make sure that the first time your hiring managers meet you is NOT when you go for that interview.

Send a message on LinkedIn.

Stalk them and find their work emails so you can send them a cold email.

Find a connection who knows them and ask if you could be introduced.

Do ANYTHING it takes to get your foot in the door.

Because you deserve to.

Whether it’s the employees or employers who are in charge, you can still have what it takes to land that perfect-for-you career.
