If you want to change your career, you need to be leveraging LinkedIn.

Here are 3 ways:

1️⃣ Optimise your LinkedIn profile

Your first step is to curate the content that people will find on your personal LinkedIn page.

Think about first impressions.

❓ What does your About and Featured sections tell about you?
❓ Have you elaborated on the work that you’re doing at your company and in your previous positions?
❓ If you want to enter a different industry, have you made that clear on your profile in some way?

No one can read your mind.

If you’re interested in something, make it clear.

Speak it loud and speak it proud!

2️⃣ Build connections on LinkedIn

Some of the most successful and influential people in the world are on LinkedIn.

They’re just a Connect button or DM away.

So leverage on that access!

For instance: If you’re interested in beauty, make a list of people that you’d most like to be connected with in the beauty industry.

Don’t filter that initial list - be audacious and dream big!

Then start looking for them on LinkedIn.

Send a connection request and even a friendly DM!.

Be clear, succinct and friendly.

So many of my clients have been able to turn these new connections into job opportunities!

3️⃣ Launch a side project & talk about it on LinkedIn!

Say you’ve spent your entire career in finance but actually have an interest in fashion .

Well, we all know that it’s better to show than to tell.

So if your current job doesn’t let you do anything related to your personal interests (i.e. the area that you want to pivot into), then think about creating a small side project to illustrate that interest.

This could be in the form of an Instagram page, a blog, a podcast or even just a weekly LinkedIn post where you share your opinion on the latest fashion developments and headlines that are trending in the industry.

Be proactive.

Take that extra step forward.

I promise you that you’ll stand out from the crowd.

And before you know it, you’ll be quitting your current job to enter a new field!

Oops. 😅

PS: These 3 steps will put you on the right path to finding your dream career, but the entire journey is far more complex. It requires an in-depth analysis of your true values and strengths, as well as experiments to test drive your career options and the actual leaving/discussion of compensation in your new job!

If you’d like guidance on the above, I currently offer 1:1, group career coaching and my newly launched (!!) video course to help you pivot into a “perfect for you” career.
