The happiest employees don’t put their companies first.
To explain, I’ll reference my time working as a VP at BlackRock, which was, let’s face it:
🏆 A prestigious, well-paid role; and
💼 One that looked great on paper & garnered respect
These glamorous things were fantastic, but not quite enough.
😔 I was depressed.
😩 Exhausted.
💔 And desperate to get out.
Because despite the fancy BlackRock benefits, none of them aligned with what I wanted. And that included:
💪 Flexibility
I wanted to be able to plan my own time my own way. I didn’t mind working hard but I wanted to be in control of my own time. I didn’t want to sit around when there wasn’t any work just because I had to.
💰 Financial upside
I didn’t want to be capped by salary brackets or promotion timelines.
💡 Doing something I found meaningful
I wanted to spend my hours contributing to something I felt strongly about and seeing tangible results in my work.
BlackRock offered none of the above, which is why I jumped ship and eventually built my career coaching business.
Helping others find their dream jobs.
Which is why I said that the happiest employees don’t put their companies first:
because they are wholly in tune with what drives them & find the role that fits them best.
When your values and role align, that’s where your dream job is.
🌟 The place you were always meant to be.
So I’d love to know: What are some of your career values?
PS: If you need help identifying your values & translating them into your dream career, DM me saying VALUES! I’m a career coach & would love to see how I can help. 😊
