Tech layoffs are STILL happening and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down any time soon.
If you are one of those being laid off, I want to first tell you that you’re not being laid off because
❌ You are incompetent
❌ You are not important
❌ You don’t bring any skills or value to your company
❌ You are not performing well at work
It is LIKELY because:
➡️ Management screwed up by over-hiring
➡️ Tech got greedy and overconfident
➡️ AI is taking over and it’s nothing personal
Tech used to be the best thing that ever happened to anyone’s career.
Everyone was shifting to tech because of the pay, culture, and opportunities.
Now, it couldn't be further from reality.
But for those laid off, it’s not the end.
Here are three tips for you in this difficult time.
(1) Repackage your strengths
Really understand what you bring to the table
And don’t just focus on your hard skills.
Beyond your skills in coding, you may have a strong sense of resourcefulness, curiosity, or people management.
Be ready to sell yourself so that they know exactly what you bring to the table as an entire human being.
(2) Build a strong personal brand
Tap into your existing network.
Start creating content online. Put yourself out there.
Don’t stop there - focus on growing your network
Make this your “Year of YES”
Because at the end of the day, people hire people.
And you just need to impress the socks out of one person enough for them to want to hire you.
(3) Do NOT give up.
Sit in the suck and feel all that you need to feel after being laid off.
But don’t stay there and don’t give up.
Adopt a growth mindset.
The glass does NOT have to be half-empty.
You can invest in yourself – go for a course, learn a new skill, or speak to a career expert.
Do whatever you can to build yourself back up.
You can do this.
