One of the best parts of being a business owner is that I get to -

🌍 Work from Bali, London, Hong Kong, or New York at any time of the year
⏳ Take time off whenever I want without asking for permission or feeling bad about asking my boss
🥗 Take long lunches or run errands in the middle of the day without worrying about being judged by my colleagues
😌 End my day early without agonizing about not having put in enough face time at work

It’s amazing having control over my own time.

But don’t get fooled by all the glitz and glam -

I also work way harder now than I’ve ever worked before in BlackRock or at Style Theory.

I don’t remember the last time I didn’t work on a weekend, and public holidays no longer have meaning.

But what I realized is that one of my core career values is flexibility.

And being a career coach gives me the flexibility and purpose I would’ve never gotten as a VP in BlackRock or GM in StyleTheory.

And that’s what happens when you know your career values.

You can actually build a career that optimizes for it.

When job seeking, we often focus on our experiences and skills.

If I had just focused on translating my skills into a job, I would have never made the leap from finance to fashion to career coaching.

On paper, there truly were very few hard skills that were transferrable.

What I realized was that you don’t get to your dream career just by optimizing on skills.

You get there by optimizing for values.

I only truly landed my dream job when I figured out my career values, namely -

💬 Having control over my own time and location
💬 Intellectual stimulation and growth
💬 Helping others and seeing my work make a difference to someone
💬 Being able to benefit from the financial upside

And not everyone will share the same values for their jobs, and that’s okay.

What’s crucial is that you know what’s important to you.

So if you feel that dissonance between what you truly want & how your career is currently going, send me a DM, I’d love to help.

And join other high achievers like yourself from The Straits Times, TPG, Nestle, Accenture, and Google to get clarity and land their dream job inside my career coaching program.
