I grew up telling people what to do. 😅
That trait might have something to do with me being the eldest child (with 2 younger siblings), the oldest among my cousins and family friends.
I grew up being told to be responsible and in charge of everyone.
When I was a child, those autocratic decisions (ahem) came in the form of imaginary play: We’d pretend to be working in a restaurant and I’d assign different roles for everyone to enact.
My mom even reminded me recently that my childhood ambition was to become a teacher because I loved telling people what to do!
Whoops.
Well, I was only off by half a mark.
I’m not a teacher, but I do teach people how they can find their perfect-for-them career. That includes:
✅ Uncovering your limiting beliefs and superpowers
✅ Doing the “right” kind of research for your dream job
✅ Finding mentors
✅ Revamping your resume
✅ Taking your career for a test drive
✅ Negotiating your salary
✅ Figuring out how to resign properly and preparing for the Big Leap!
You can figure it out yourself, of course.
Plenty of people have.
But it can take years to get off running around in circles (take it from me - I spent 7 years trying to figure this out myself)
Time is one of our most critical resources.
And your career is one of the most important things in your life.
It’s the thing that will consume the majority of your hours for at least 40 - 50 years if not for the rest of your life (given the growing trend of not ever retiring)!
You don’t want to look back and think:
❓ Where has the time gone?
❓ Why did I spend it all doing something I love?
❓ Why did I let fear and uncertainty hold me back when I could’ve just asked for someone’s help?
But it’d be too easy for that to happen.
We humans have a tendency to cling to the status quo, no matter how painful it is.
So please: Do yourself a favour.
Don’t let that be you.
