😱How do you get someone to write a $1 mil cheque for your startup?
In ep 39 of #ctrlaltcareer podcast, founder of Tigerhall, Nellie Wartoft, shares her incredible fundraising journey
💰From how she convinced her first angel investor to cut a $1 mil cheque (before she even had a minimum viable product!)
💵To how she got Sequoia on her cap table
It's a jam packed with insights on how to fundraise.
🔥Here's a snippet of some lessons I took away -
1️⃣ Raise twice as much as you think you need, and assume that it will run out twice as fast as you think it would.
2️⃣ Work hard to get lucky. Nellie was able to close her first $1 million check because she got lucky, but also because she worked damn hard and spoke to 100’s of people.
3️⃣ When trying to figure out your company’s valuation at the early stage, consider how much of the company you are willing to give away in exchange for the amount of capital you’re looking for.
4️⃣ The trick to networking? Be the host of an event rather than a passive participant. This way you be known and have a reason to speak to all of the panelists and guests.
5️⃣ Pre-Series A funding, investors are investing in the founder and their values. Series A onwards is more to do with the numbers and how much is needed to make the company grow.
And so, so much more.
