Cold emails are real game changers.
Back when I was working at BlackRock, I had dreams of starting my own fashion company.
I had an idea, went to some fashion trade shows and even cold emailed a hotel group in Hong Kong with my audacious idea.
Despite having no links with the hotel nor any real fashion credibility behind my name!
To my shock, they replied.
We met.
And they were intrigued by my idea and even wanted to take it forward.
I. Was. Shocked.
Now, this is the part where you’d expect me to say, “I went all in and gave it my best shot.”
Sadly, that wasn’t the case.
I allowed imposter syndrome to take over and eventually abandoned my dream, but one thing remains clear from that experience: Cold emails work.
And if you don’t ask, you don’t get.
So just ask.
What’s the worst that could happen?
P/S: Cold emails don’t have to just be to external people! It can also be to colleagues in different departments or even a senior executive that you’d otherwise have no chance of meeting!
Just find their email, send a polite but succinct message stating who you are and what your ask is, then click send.
And most importantly: Don’t bombard them with follow-up emails!
Most might not respond, and that’s 100% normal.
But the ones who do?
They might just change your life. 😉
