Building a business from scratch is painful AF.
Going into entrepreneurship, I knew the statistics - I knew that 9/10 businesses fail.
To FEEL that statistic though?
That was something I wasn’t prepared for.
I encountered the most rejection in my life in the first 6 months of my life as an entrepreneur.
I would put my heart and soul into every single one of these discovery calls
Only to be met with,
“No thanks”
“Not for now”
“This is great but I don’t think I can invest”
& more
The rejections never stopped coming in those early days.
And it really broke me.
Days filled with doubt, tears, and exasperation.
And most of all, regret.
I remember the creeping regret of leaving such a “perfect-on-paper” career in BlackRock and the job I felt so happy about in StyleTheory.
I thought to myself…
“Why did I do this to myself?”
“They were right - I’m not cut out for this.”
“There are way easier ways to make a living in life.”
And I understood why so many people around me told me not to go down this path.
The only thing that kept me going during this time?
A deep sense of purpose -
I told myself: “If I can help just one person out there not go through what I went through with my career, and build a career they truly love, this is all worth it.”
And for the first time, I understood why companies have mission statements.
Because this sense of purpose was what got me through those dark days.
And it made me make all the big and small decisions – hire a business coach, re-strategise my marketing, hire a social media team, and more – that got me here.
And having gone through the depths of hell…
